Hi guys,

Many thanks for being so supportive, singing along and grooving around while members of REVOLUTION (Jag and Silas) performed together with your AC Idol 2005. We had fun rocking out with you guys to the sound of The Stars - Switchfoot, Paint The Town Red - Delirious? and encore song Meant To Live - Switchfoot. We hope you guys enjoyed listening to us as much as we enjoyed performing there... Definitely will come back again next time!!! Till then cheers and God bless... First of all, thanks to everybody who had come down and showed their support for Revolution! The band played Without You, an original song composed by the lead guitarist, Silas. Hope everybody enjoyed it! Even though the band did not go on to the finals, it was definitely a good learning experience for the everyone. It's been an interesting adventure for the band members and this is the beginning of even greater things to come.

Once again, thanks for taking the time out to go down and show your much appreciated support. All the best to all the finalists in Asian Beat!

Asian Beat semi finals

Just in case you don't already know (tt means you haven't been reading the tagboard, tsk tsk), Revolution is in the semi finals of Asian Beat competition. They will be the 7th band playing.

Here's the details for semi finals:

Location: Youth Park
Date: 5th November 2005, Saturday
Time: 4 p.m

Do come down and support Revolution as fan support will affect the judges' decision! See you there!

Asian Beat heats

Firstly, thanks to all the supporters who came down to Youth Park to support Revolution in the heats!

Revolution kicked off the Asian Beat heats with style, playing their original composition, Angel's Wings (admit it, it's a fan favourite). Just an observation: Revolution was the brightest band at Youth Park... literally... a refreshing change to all the black and white that seems to be what everybody else has decided to wear. Everything went great and by faith we claim the semi finals spot!

All the best to The One (Sidney lookalike band) and Tainted Friday (girl power)!

P/S: having a female keyboardist is by no way "inoriginal" (that's not even a word in the first place).

PP/S: we'll much rather have a "cliche" good band who can at least play one song without the lead singer going off key...

Hey guys, revo has been busy with practices and indeed this weekend was really awesome! We started off our first "Outdoor" performance at the Victoria School Audi on Fri evening with 3 originals and 2 covers! Really enjoyed the performance! Thanks to the organisers for the chance for REVO to perform! : )

This was followed by Saturday evening, where we had our 2nd "Outdoor" performance at Bugis Junction Fountain and this time this was a much bigger crowd! Although we were not given time to do a proper sound check, but praise be to God cause everything turned out pretty well! Level of excitement and energy was one not to be missed! Praise Jesus for all these wonderful opportunites as we grow from each performances!! Many thanks to those who specially came down to support us! We could not have possibly done all these things if not for your constant support and encouragements! : )

We should all have these factors when we serve God through our talents:

-Having anointed excellence
Its about having the presence & anointing together with your talents maximized

-Commit to memorizing as many songs
Then, you become familiar with the song to the point where you can minister to the people
If you know the songs well, you will then be confident enough to play and serve in a bigger platform

-[ I rather err in faith than to be playing everything right in fear ]

-You have to personalize whatever you have learnt in theory
it becomes understanding when you are learning it but it becomes wisdom when you apply it!

3 elements of music:
- Rhythm [drums, rhythm guitar]
- Harmony [bass guitar]
- Melody [piano, e. guit, rhythm guitar]

Things to take note of before starting to play in a Band:-

- Take time to do a good sound check

- Determine the balance of each instrument in the band

- You must be able to hear yourself yet able to hear the rest. Be a team player. Dont go [ autopilot ] when you cant hear the rest

- When you cant hear yourself, get the rest to tone down. Dont increase your volume, because it might result in the [ escalating effect ] where everybody keeps turning themselves up because the balance is out.

- Tuning is your own responsibility

- All instruments, including the keyboards must be tuned properly

- Check the key with the song leader

- That is why you must be quick and proficient in several keys of the song

- Take note of the turnarounds

- Look at the song leader, not anywhere/anyone else, especially at critical points- The turnarounds!

- Dont assume where the song leader is going to sing

- Chord chart familiarity

- If you are familiar with the chords, you will be able to play more confidently

- Then, you will be able to focus on the song leader, ministering to the congregation, etc. And not be found fumbling with the chords

- Its the BASIC requirement before attempting to play any song!

- Sing while playing

- When you are familiar with the chords/song, you will be able to sing while playing

- It creates a [ visual effect ] for the congregation; you are ministering to them as well

- You wont be lost somewhere through the song if you sing along; some parts of the song actually sounds similar melodically. You wont go wrong if you SING it out

-[ Should you make a mistake, just keep playing, the show must go on ]!

- Have a general discussion before playing

- Decide which instruments will playing what so that there will be no clashes (rhythm, voicing, groove, etc) and to make sure everyone parts can be heard

- Keyboardists: -[ Chop your left hand ] Stay out of the bassists register, thats the bassist job, not yours. Just take note of the chord voicing and/or fill-ins

- Make sure everyone knows what to play at turnarounds

- Decide on the form

-[ Having minimum changes to the original song, with the maximum impact ]

- Equipments

- Guitarists should try experimenting sounds with pedals, to find the sound that they like (e.g. distortion, wah, phraser, vibrato, chorus, delay, overdrive, etc)

- Keyboardists should not limit themselves to just several sounds only (piano, string, pad, and organ), there are around 6000 sounds available!

- Try reading the manual for your instrument, you have to know it well to play it well

At the end of the day, the presence of God must come after you have played, thats all that matter. We have to keep our hearts right before God and be faithful over little and basic things like prayer time and bible-reading. Temptations will definitely come, because if the devil can hit those on the platform, he knows that many others will stumble because of them. Carry the presence of God, people should feel inspired and wanting to draw near to God after being with you.

Why Revolution?

A long long time ago.....

Up in heaven, the hosts of angels gather together everyday to worship the most high God serving Him everyday

They were led by the chief worshiper of God named Lucifer
who led the praise and worship in other words music but he decided to his own demise to rebel against God, exalting himself above God

Thus God banished him to earth

But that was not the last we heard of him....
Fallen to earth, he brought music down with him
Since the fall of Satan (the former Lucifer) music on earth has always been associated or affiliated to his purpose of violence, anger, frustration, depression, disappointment

Our purpose is to start a REVOLUTION to win music back for God's purpose. To sing of faith, hope, love, and dreams and revelation
songs of encouragement, songs that speak of courage to never give up on life,
songs that will not make our youths rebellious or bitter or violent, but will give them courage, faith, hope and love
